Welcome

The John Law Building is situated on one of the 'best built blocks in the city', as stated in the publication 'Saint John: Canada's winter shopping port" (1914).  In 1912, Ames Holden McCready Limited, the largest shoe manufacturing industry in Canada built this building as their Saint John location.  The 5 story building, 50 by 100 feet was erected for their Eastern Canadian trade, which was built of brick on a concrete foundation with a fireproof elevator and stairs.  The building on 89 Canterbury Street was described as 'the finest and most modern warehouse in Saint John".

The location of the John Law Building was also described as 'a prominent position in what is regarded as destined to become a practical centre of the commercial interests of the city'.  There was great attention to detail and planning when designing and finishing the John Law Building.  Several large and wide windows were placed on one side, located so 'they are blessed with an unrestricted plentitude of sunlight.'

In present day, the above stands true.  The old Ames Holden McCready building was purchased by the John Law Corporation in 1990 and was brought back to life.  Although the building was modernized with hardwood and tile floors, modern decor, wireless high speed internet, new light fixtures, etc, the old historic charm was maintained as the focal point with features such as the original robust wood beams surging from the floor to the ceiling, the brick work was refinished and the attention to detail was preserved by showcasing fabulous pieces of artwork and furnishings throughout each and every floor.
